Massage Modalities

Massages may integrate several modalities or types of massages.
Not all modalities here are currently offered. Austin Massages focus is on Relaxing Swedish, Deep and Deep Tissue massages. Shiatsu, Sports, stretching techniques and other modalities may also be integrated into the massage session.

Swedish Massage is designed primarily to relax muscles. Like most massages it can increase circulation, remove metabolic waste products, help obtain a feeling of connectedness and better awareness of the body’s use and position. It can help reduce emotional and physical stress and is often used for stress management.

Deep Massage usually refers to work done specifically to affect the deeper muscles. Deep massages stimulate circulation and helps lymphatic flow, promoting detoxification and oxygenation of stagnant tissues. Deep doesn’t necessarily mean painful and often refers to the depth and level of the client’s positive experience, not just the amount of pressure.

Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. Its aim is to help release chronic patterns of tension in the body with slow strokes and deep pressure on the contracted areas. It can be intense work but slowly easing into the tissues, rather than just diving in, tends to lessen the intensity. Clients need to communicate even closer with the therapist if during this type of massage work. It often takes several sessions to lessen the chronic patterns of tension in the body. Deep tissue and specialized massage sessions may cost a little more, depending on the needs of the client.

Post-Sports-event massages to help loosen tight muscles and reduce recovery time.

LMT's Advanced Educational Training: On top of the standard training hours required by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) the LMT's training also included a 200 hour massage program approved by the TDSHS consisting of Craniosacial Work, Advanced Structural Bodywork, Clinical Application in Bodywork, Psychology of Bodywork, Zero Balancing and Advanced Integrated Bodywork.  Additional massage training also included 250 hours of advanced training in Massage Therapy including Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Massage, Movement and Skills, Professionalism, Ethics, Business Practice, Structural Bodywork, Deep Massage, Zen Shiatsu and Integrative Bodywork. There are numerous types of massage modes or modalities in the field of massage. Some of the continuing education courses included Chair Massage, Integrated Soft Tissue Therapies, Treating TMJ Dysfunction, Hot Stone Massage, Releasing the Rotator Cuff, Tips and Tricks for the Lower Back and Stretch Your Clients.

What is Zero Balancing (ZB)?  According to the Zero Balancing Health Association "the hallmarks of ZB are the integration of the client's body energy with their body structure; creating clearer, stronger fields of energy in the body/mind; and balancing energy in the densest tissues of the body, the bone and skeletal system. The desired outcome of a Zero Balancing session is to help relieve physical and mental symptoms; to improve the ability to deal with life stresses; to organize vibratory fields thereby promoting the sense of wholeness and well being." ZB was developed by Fritz Smith, MD and has been taught internationally since 1973.
