You don’t have to keep your
stress! Massage may help to reduce your stress, pain and tight or tense muscles
while helping you maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.
There is more and more compelling evidence that
actives like Tai Chi, yoga, deep breathing, massage and meditation, can help
reduce stress and may have other health benefits as well. It takes some effort
and planning on your part but it’s usually well, well worth it. It may be one of
the most worthwhile things you can do in the long run.
Why take the time for
the relaxing benefits of massage?
If you think that taking a few
minutes to unwind at the end of the day is really all the relaxation you need,
think again.
This is a good breather, but a few minutes will
not provide anywhere near the stress-reducing benefits of deep relaxation like
massage.
Relaxation is much more than simply having peace of mind, resting or enjoying a
hobby, but they help in some many ways. Deep relaxation can really help you
manage stress, stay alert, be energetic and be more productive.
If you
experience a lot of stress in your life your body may respond with harmful side
effects that can be bad for your health, such as headaches, loss of sleep and
even heart disease. The deep relaxation experienced from massages can release
tension in both your mind and body.
It is too easy
to put off any relaxation technique and miss out on all the health benefits that
go with it. Massage is one technique where once you get on the table it is
a real no-brainer. And that's the big idea. You almost can’t help but to relax, with little
effort on your part.
Relaxation
techniques in general can improve how your body responds to the stress of
everyday life by:
Reducing muscle tension and your breathing rate.
Lowering your blood pressure.
Increasing blood flow to cells of your body.
Besides massage, here are just a few ideas and ways you can help reduce your
stress and start your way to better health benefits.
Meaningful hobbies
like music, art, social activates, and volunteering for good causes or even
gardening can help reduce stress.
Listening to
relaxing music
can be one of the easiest methods.
Try cutting back
on tobacco, alcohol, caffeine and excess sugar.
Exercise on a
regular basis
can help your body to release stress reducing hormones. You could take up
swimming, walking, biking, diving, dancing, tennis, basketball, or baseball. The
list goes on and on and there is always something for everyone.
Avoid things that
are likely to cause stress. Turn off the media. Unplug the phone and have a relaxing dinner
time with enjoyable music or even candles.
Laugh and smile often and loudly.
Laughter not
only relieves stress and tension; studies indicate it may also lengthen life
span. When you feel low or stressed then see a funny movie, read a good book and
talk to some friends that can bring you laughter. There is compelling evidence
that people can reduce stress by simply laughing out loud, frequently, at
yourself and with friends. No joke! Pun intended.
Embrace a
positive attitude. This may reduce your susceptibility toward accident-proneness
and certain stress-related diseases, such as heart attacks and strokes.
Make
small life style changes. Begin with something simple like taking
healthy breaks during the workday. Do something for yourself for a change. Take
a class, a 30-minute bath with soft music in the background. Find a hobby you
enjoy.
Get a good
night's sleep. A good restful sleep allows the nervous system and the brain to
"cool down" and this helps prevent stress-related disease.
Make new
and realistic goals often. For example, you could learn how to draw, do wood work,
or learn how do make pottery. We all need positive and joyful reasons to get up
in the morning. Visioning how these goals will look at completion may help to
achieve them easier.
Go lightly
with your criticism. Not everyone fits our preconceived mold. Look
for their good points rather than shortcomings. Don't be too critical of
yourself either!
Don't
constantly worry about small problems. Focus on the big picture of high-level
wellness, mentally and physically. Do physical activity when you need to work
off your anger, like sports, a brisk walk, exercise, or maybe a bike ride.
Eat right and reduce junk foods. Junk foods tend to work against our health.
They can make us tired and stressed at the same time. Good nutrition is a real
key to a healthy lifestyle and reduced stress. Fresh fruits and vegetables can
be high in nutrition and fiber. Watch not only what you eat but when you eat as
well. And avoid overeating and late nigh eating.
Get your health checked regularly. Not only
do regular visits to the doctor help you to keep a close eye on your health, a
healthy check-up can help to keep worry and anxiety in check. Advanced
diagnostics and treatments are key to a longer life.
Here are
some various relaxation techniques you can try on your own.
They can
help to recharge the mind and body.
One relaxing technique is to slowly and carefully tighten your muscles in
various parts of the body, and then relax them as you slowly breathe out.
Light stretching exercise on a regular basis not only helps to reduce some of
those aches and pains, it provides you with information about your body limits
and tight muscles areas as well, called body awareness.
When under
stress we tend to either breath shallow or we hold our breath for short periods
of time. This can affect our nervous system as well. You can do this one almost
anywhere, as long as you are not driving.
Close you eyes and take in a deep breath. Hold it for a second or two and let it
out slowly. Do this several times and even let out a sigh while breathing out,
if you wish. Try to clear your mind of irritations or worries. Think of
pleasing thoughts and be thankful for the breath of life!
Life is short!...
Embrace it!
Enjoy it! Respect it!
